Beautiful weather beckoned many families to Homewood Central Park on Mother's Day afternoon. It was a perfect opportunity to ask for words of maternal wisdom from moms like Kenyardia Mabry.

"Always be patient with your children regardless of their age from infants on up always be patient. And that's the key thing and that will get you through anything else that they may be going through is to be patient," said Kenyardia Mabry.

Angela Barnhart shared a saying she learned from her sister.

"There's a saying that the best thing you can give your children are roots and wings. The roots are you know connection to the past and to their well.. a grounding and the wings are freedom to be themselves. So I think that's a good Mother's Day thought," said Angela Barnhart.

Two generations of one family shared their personal experience. While standing with her daughter and granddaughter Fran Colpitts offered this advice.

"Well, if I had it to do over again I would give my daughter a little more free reign. I was overly protective. I think we have to let them you know do their own thing and make their own choices," said Fran Colpitts.

Her daughter also weighed in on the topic of motherhood. Kelly Ross-Davis said, "Letting your child find your child's gifts and encourage those, reinforce the positive whenever you can, and it makes reinforcing the other stuff not quite so hard."

The third generation put it simply. "I love my mother she's very special to me," said Rachel Ross-Davis.
