CENTER POINT, Ala. (WIAT) - Four suspects were arrested Monday after tips from neighbors led police to the scene of a burglary in progress.
Dewayne Callaway, 36, Angela Denton, 42, Demetrius Dewayne Givan, 33, and Rodriguez Smith, 33, were all taken into custody on Monday afternoon and charged with third-degree burglary and attempted theft of property.
Neighbors in the 18th Avenue Northwest area of Center Point alerted authorities after reportedly seeing a white pickup truck pull up to a house, let three people out and then drive away.
Deputies with the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene and found two people inside the home who were taken into custody after they tried to escape through the back door of the home.
Another suspect was found hiding in a crawl space and was taken into custody as well.
As the suspects were taken to the front of the home and questioned, police spotted the pickup truck as it pulled in front of the home. When the driver, Smith, saw the others had been captured, he sped away, leading deputies on a chase to 3rd Avenue Northwest where he surrendered and was taken into custody.
Denton, Givan and Callaway all posted $2,750 bonds each and were released. However, Smith remains in custody and his being held on $10,250 bond.
