Birmingham, AL (WIAT) - A Chinese delegation of business leaders, researchers, and non-profit representatives met at the Birmingham Zoo on Sunday to listen to a presentation from the Black Warrior Riverkeeper organization about a controversial mine at Shepherd's Bend. Some are concerned that the mine is so close to a source of drinking water. The Environmental Management Commission of Alabama recently upheld a wastewater discharge permit for the mine which was issued by the Alabama Department of Environmental Management. Opponents say they will not give up the fight.
