BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) -- UPDATE: The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office has confirmed that a 3-year-old boy was pronounced dead at UAB Medical West after falling into a pool.
Jefferson County deputies, along with the McAdory Fire Department, responded to a call of an unresponsive child on Monday evening around 5 p.m.
A release from Chief Deputy Randy Christian with the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office, says a 3-year-old child left a house undetected and fell into a pool.
Upon arrival, authorities discovered the child was not breathing on his own.
The child was transported to UAB Medical West Hospital for treatment but medical personnel were unable to revive him.
The child who lived in McCalla was visiting his grandparent's home when this accidental drowning occurred.
