BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) -- On Friday, UAB associate professors will present a workshop to raise awareness of the effects of depression on women, their children and communities.
Depression affects one in ten adults, and it can be costly and debilitating to sufferers.
According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, women and those ages 45 to 64m are at high risk.
The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration defines maternal depression as a significant health issue.
The workshop, "Understanding Maternal Depression", will be held from 9 a.m. until noon at the Mountain Brook Board of Education in the Charles Manson Building.
The building is located at 32 Vine Street.
Healthcare workers, counselors, social workers and clergy members are encouraged to attend.
