PINSON, Ala. (WIAT) -- Fire investigators are questioning a "person of interest" in relation to a suspicious early morning house fire in Pinson.
The fire happened around 5:30 am Friday morning in the Red Hollow housing complex. A family of eight escaped without injury, but there's a chance the fire could have been set intentionally.
Center Point Fire Department responded to the blaze, and the state fire marshall is assisting with the investigation. They comb through charred debris in the back of the house for clues as to what started the fire.
One neighbor, Tricia, has all of the clues she needs.
"I had my window open," Tricia says, "And yesterday I heard about 4:30, they said, 'Since we're being evicted, let's just burn it down, collect the money and move on.'"
Tricia doesn't want us to use her last name out of fear. She has two grandchildren that live with her.
"What if it had spread over here and we didn't wake up? And it spread here," she says, "and we were trapped?"
Matt Angelo with the Center Point Fire Department says investigators are not ruling out any potential cause.
"You know, we're not saying that the fire was set," Angelo says, "We're just looking at a broad area of different possibilities."
That could mean the fire started on accident or on purpose. Investigators analyzed the electrical wiring in the home and found nothing out of the ordinary.
