BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) -- UPDATE: Matt Pitt is currently being held at the Shelby County Sheriff's Office for probation violation.
ORIGINAL: Matt Pitt, the youth evangelist known for founding "The Basement," was taken into custody in Birmingham Tuesday evening, according to the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office.
According to Randy Christian with the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office, police received a report pertaining to the whereabouts of Pitt.
The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office contacted the Birmingham Police Department about the tip.
Pitt, 30, fled from the Vulcan area with officers with the Birmingham Police Department on foot and in pursuit.
He led officers through the woods to 20th Street.
Units with the Birmingham Police Department apprehended Pitt on 20th Street.
After a struggle, deputies with the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office assisted in the arrest.
Upon his apprehension, Pitt was first placed in a Birmingham Police Department car before being put inside a Jefferson County Sheriff's Office car.
He is being transferred to the Jefferson County Jail.
A warrant with a $15,000 bond was issued for his arrest on Aug. 14 for the charge of impersonating a peace officer.
