BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) – An illegal gambling operation has been discovered near Forestdale.
Deputies were called to a business in the 1400 block of Beauty Circle on Thursday afternoon to further investigate a complaint of illegal gambling.
After arriving on the scene, the Forestdale Fire Marshal asked for deputy assistance after inspecting the business, which he had been told was a child tutoring center.
His inspection found a false wall and an entrance to a neighboring unit. Inside the unit, he found illegal gambling machines and customers.
Snacks and alcoholic beverages were also being sold inside the illegal operation.
Authorities with the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office and the Jefferson County District Attorney's Office are currently on the scene.
The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office says no arrests have been made, but charges are pending.
