BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) - A three month long construction project on Interstate 20 is set to start at 12:01AM Monday morning.
Phase three of a project to improve the condition of I-20 begins at midnight.
West bound lanes will be closed, from exit 136, the I-459 interchange to exit 130, the I-20/59 interchange.
Construction crews will be working to repave the six mile stretch of highway.
The Alabama Department of Transportation says the high volume of traffic and heavy loads from large trucks have taken a toll on the road.
To avoid the shut down Westbound lanes, ALDOT is recommending that you take I-459 North to exit 33A and then jump on I-59 South.
Signs will be posted with local detour routes.
The project is expected to last 90 days.
Eastbound lanes reopened last month after being closed since April.
The entire project to improve I-20 is said to be completed by winter of this year.
