CULLMAN, Ala. (WIAT) -- The Cullman City School Board named Dr. Doreen Griffeth as the district's new superintendent Wednesday morning.
Griffeth is currently the Cobb County Schools Area Assistant Superintendent in Marietta, Georgia, where she has served in that position for two years.
Prior to that, she was a principal for ten years in the Cobb County School System. She has also taught elementary school.
She was chosen out of a group of five finalist.
Griffeth received the announcement over the phone in Marietta this morning.
She says with Cullman City schools having the state's second-highest scores, one of her main goals will be to keep moving the district forward.
"Also to start comparing us nationally not just to Alabama schools but start looking at how we're performing nationally," Griffeth adds.
