BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) – The Birmingham Police Department has launched a homicide investigation after the body of a woman who was previously reported as missing was found in Oxford.
Sara Aletha Mitchell's body was found in Oxford, Alabama, on Saturday, August 4, 2013.
Officers with the Haralson County Deputies arrested 23-year-old Justin Clarence McConico at a rest stop in Georgia.
Birmingham police have charged McConico with murder. He is being at the Haralson County Sheriff's Office while he awaits extradition.
Mitchell was last seen on Wednesday, July 31, 2013.
Family members reported her as missing and a missing person investigation was launched on Friday.
Mitchell's cause of death is unknown at this time.
