BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) - On March 23, 2013, the Birmingham-Shuttlesworth Airport Authority convened its special called meeting following a fatal sign collapse Friday.

Hendricks expressed the airport's condolences for the family of Luke Bresette, a 10-year-old from Kansas who died from injuries after a more than 300-pound flight status display board collapsed Friday afternoon.
His mother and two siblings are in area hospitals recovering from their injuries.
Chairwoman Gaynelle Hendricks issued this statement to CBS42 following the meeting:
"On behalf of the entire Birmingham-Shuttlesworth Airport Authority, first of all, I'd like to extend our heartfelt sympathy to the family of the child who passed following the accident Friday at the Birmingham-Shuttlesworth Airport. Our prayers are for the young child and his family, especially those who are continuing to recover from this unfortunate event.
President and CEO Al Denson and the staff are continuing to work with officials to investigate. This includes discussions with contractors, subcontractors that are responsible for the modernization of the Birmingham-Shuttlesworth International Airport.
Please be assured that we're making every effort that no other visitor to this facility faces a similar tragedy in the future."
Board members would not go into detail at the time of the meeting in regard to safety measure that have or will be taken. ON March 23 crews could be seen tending to flight status displays .
