Who Was Major Bashinsky?

As investigators continue to piece together the mystery behind Major Bashinsky's death, we're finding more insight into his life.

CBS 42 has spoken with Major's wife Leslie and his brother Sloan, but the question remains...who was Major Bashinsky?

Thomas Major Bashinsky was born in 1947 to Sloan Young Bashinsky, the founder of Golden Flake. Sloan Senior shared a strong friendship with former Alabama football coach Bear Bryant. Golden Flake continues that relationship with the Alabama Crimson Tide. Major and his brother Sloan Bashinsky Jr. did not work for the family business. Major graduated from law school at the University of Alabama, and was an Alabama State bar member since 1978. He was an estate and tax attorney in Birmingham. Major had two children with his first wife, Gail...son Brooks and daughter Sloan Bashinsky shown here in pictures from Facebook. He had two children with his second wife, Leslie. Major's brother, Sloan lives in Key West, Florida and continues to blog about his brother's mysterious death. Major Bashinsky disappeared on March 3rd. Police say his car was found by his oldest daughter Sloan, while she was hanging missing person posters. major's body was pulled out of Highlands Golf Course pond on March 15th. Investigators still don't know an official cause of death. Whether it was suicide or homicide and are waiting on a report from the corner's office. We're told by close friends, Major's children Sloan and Brooks are asking for privacy during this difficult time as rumors swirl about their father. Many of those rumors are exposed through his brother's blog. But, friends and family tell us major was a private man.
