Realtors had access to Randy Glasscock's house key until last Tuesday, when thieves took fifteen thousand dollars and his sense of security, all while being escorted by a realty agent.
"They were able to come to my dresser to our jewelry boxes and instead of taking the boxes and stuff like that apparently they just opened it up emptied it out and stuck everything in their pockets. They closed it up and put it right back on the dressers," said Glasscock. "We're in a very small county and very nice people and you wouldn't think this would happen."
His was one of at least tree Chilton County houses robbed last Tuesday. Sheriff's department investigators believe three suspects arranged home tours with local realtors then distracted them to take what they wanted inside.
Glasscock lost several family heirlooms, including necklaces, rings, precious stones, and two custom made bone handled knives.
He thinks the thieves knew what they wanted and where to find it.
"No tv's no vcrs no that kind of thing just small things that they knew they could sell on the street very quickly," said Glasscock.
He estimates they took 15 thousand dollars worth of valuables, but his homeowner's policy only covers $2,500 with a $1,000 deductible.
One of the victims, the daughter of a local realty agent, is in the same boat as Glasscock.
Susie Williams says her daughter also lost about $15,000 of heirlooms, jewelry, and electronics.
"And she knew that they had been through just about everything in the house all the drawers the closets, one of the closet doors was standing open," said Williams.
Williams has been in the home selling business for a while. She says this is a wake up call that everyone needs to take stronger precautions.
Randy Glasscock says it has changed the way he looks at everyone.
"It's as if we've been violated very detrimental and that's the message for the people out there. Don't let it happen to you," said Glasscock.
Investigators believe there may be six or seven related robberies and robbery attempts at other locations including the Trussville area.
They believe as many as three people are involved, but did not have solid descriptions. They said the suspects may be traveling in a Green Jeep Cherokee, but they did not have a tag number.
