Homewood, AL (WIAT) - There were pink dresses and pink ties, a massive pink birthday caker, and a pink hue to the lighting. The atmosphere at Gus Mayer Thursday night was all about breast cancer awareness and support, as well as a celebration of life for Carole Marcus Pizitz.
"I wanted some way to thank and honor my doctors at UAB Comprehensive Cancer Center. And I said to my friend Kathy Friedman, 'How can I do it?'." She said, 'Let's turn Gus Mayer pink.' It's pink," says Pizitz.
It was a packed house at Gus Mayer, that's been "pink" throughout October - donating procedes to breast cancer research. Pizitz can't be happier with the support.
"The outpouring of love and generosity has been beyond our wildest dreams. Everyday, wherever I am, eating lunch, going shopping, everywhere I go, I run into someone and I hand them a breast cancer bracelet, because they, too, have been touched."
For the folks at Gus Mayer, they were proud to be a part of a party that raised more than $65,000 for the Breast Cancer Research Foundation of Alabama.
Gus Mayer Brookwood store manager Ann Simmons says, "It's been abosolutely an honor and a gift to me to work on such a worthy cause."
