It’s another twist in an already complicated investigation. A man accused of murdering a Vestavia Hills man finds himself in more trouble.
Martez Seay is just one suspect charged in the execution style shooting of Lonnie Vaughn. Authorities are now slapping more murder charges on the 25 year-old, this time in the killing of Gregory Shelton, Jr. Shelton's body was found in a field off of South Park Road in Birmingham, back in November.
The story gets even complicated surrounding the other suspect charged in the Vaughn murder. Police had been searching for Kandi Hawkins for weeks before finding her shot on the side of the road Monday morning. Now, there's speculation that her shooter was put up to the job by none other than Martez Seay…the man she's accused of helping to murder Lonnie Vaughn. Police say they're not making any official accusations right now.
"Right now, we're still trying to pan all this out and determine exactly what happened. That may have been a separate crime at this time," says Sgt. Johnny Williams with the Birmingham Police Department.
Hawkins is still recovering at a local hospital under police surveillance. Authorities also say they don't think Seay is leading some sort of gang or crime organization, but say there is a possibility that others are involved which could lead to more arrests and charges.
