(Birmingham, AL) WIAT-

Nasty images of porn, shady characters, and unwanted attention sounds like a low end adult theater right? Well according to one city employee, these things are happening at a local public library!

That librarian is suing claiming she has been exposed to a hostile work environment!

The plaintiff is Barbara Wilson who works at the downtown branch of the Birmingham Public Library.

"Every day that she goes to work there are patrons using the libraries computers to view hardcore pornography. They engage in acts of public lewdness and they become belligerent when they are approached about it. It's been going on for years and we finally had to file suit over it," said Adam Morel, Wilson's attorney.

He says Wilson filed an EEOC complaint about the situation in October of 2009.

A November 2009 response from the City of Birmingham legal department denied Ms. Wilson's charge that the City of Birmingham Public Library was creating a sexually hostile work environment and said that they could find no validity to the allegation.

The Birmingham Public Library and the Birmingham City Attorney's office referred all questions about the litigation or library policies to the  Director of Communications for the City of Birmingham, April Odom. Odom declined to comment on any pending litigation.

Members of the downtown library branch have different reactions to the bizarre situation.

"I'm sure that it happens, but I've never seen it personally. But I can imagine with public access on computers that it does occur," said John Longshore.

"It's none of my business so you know, if they have anything inappropriate that may be up on the computer, I'm not aware of it," said Tara Gearhart.
