Jacksonville, AL (WIAT) - Killed in combat in Afghanistan, the body of Army Ranger Captain Kyle Comfort returned home Saturday night. Survived by his wife Brooke and Daughter Kinleigh, family recieved mourners Sunday at Faith Temple Christian Center in Jacksonville. The visitation was accented by posthumous honors as military officials presented Comfort's widow and mother with the Purple Heart, the Bronze Star, and the Meritorious Service Medal, among others.
Family friend, Mike Abrams stressed the outstanding nature of Comfort's military service.
"His service on the battlefield was exemplary... Captain Comfort was anything but a common soldier. He has earned the awards that he's going to be presented today," says Abrams
Outside, supporters including the Patriot Guard, Line the Streets With Love, and Circle of Peace bore flags and patriotic apparell, lining the streets and walkways.
"They gave the ultimate sacrifice, so that we can stand outside and say what we think and live in comfort and peace, and there's not one thing I wouldn't do for this family," says Aimee Allen-Kirk, who started Line the Streets With Love.
Funeral services for CPT Comfort will be held at the Faith Temple Monday at 2:00 p.m., followed by procession. Allen-Kirk says anyone looking to show their support along the processional route can meet at the Wal-Mart in Jacksonville at 1:00 p.m.
