A suspect escapes from Birmingham police headquarters Sunday morning, handcuffs and all.
Around 7am, 28-year-old Sean Ryan O'Day of Hoover walked out of an interrogation room, when he was left unsupervised while being questioned about allegations involving counterfeit money.
Just hours later, and with the help of family, O'Day turned himself in to face counterfeit money and escape charges.
"Apparently, we had a breakdown in communication and the suspect was able to escape," said Birmingham Police Department Spokesman Lieutenant Henry Irby.
Irby adds that the escape incident is being investigated.
