Pool parties can be fun, even for nonswimmers, who can watch the action from poolside. Pull up a lounge chair and grab a cold drink. If you don't have a pool in your back yard, there may be one for rent in your town. Check out the local municipal pool, community centers, clubs, hotels, or motels. Perhaps the apartment or condo complex in which you live allows you to rent the pool and clubhouse for parties. Some commercial places with pools offer complete packages that include catering and cleanup. Be sure you find out what the rules are, whether food and beverages are permitted and what you're responsible for. Set up tables for four, and place a votive candle and flowers or greenery in the center of each. There are paper designs available for pool parties and beach parties, saving you time and energy. As darkness falls, illuminate the pool area with lanterns or torches. Create a special menu of poolside drinks to go with your theme. If you have a band or DJ (d-j), set them up with palm trees on either side, lighted and life-size for a great focal point. If there's swimming, make sure you provide plenty of clean, dry towels and an area for changing clothes. Pool parties are also great for children's birthday parties. Your child can have a great time playing with friends in and around the pool. As with all children's parties, make sure there is adequate adult supervision.
