Keeping your spine healthy doesn't have to be difficult, especially if you consult a chiropractor to guide you. First, you should have your spine examined for potentially serious problems like scoliosis and slipped discs. It's also important to know your limits when it comes to lifting weights or other heavy objects. Have someone spot you when lifting weights and ask for help when moving heavy objects. You can also protect your back by learning the proper lifting technique. To lift a heavy object safely, squat down by bending your knees, firmly grasp the object and hold it close to you, then use your legs to raise your body back to the standing position. Wearing a back brace while lifting heavy objects may also help. Developing and strengthening the muscles in the back through exercise and weight training will help you prevent injuries. You should always warm up before doing any type of vigorous activity and gently stretch your back and legs. A good mattress and properly fitting shoes can also help you avoid every day aches and pains. Finally, consulting your chiropractor when you have problems or pain can help you prevent more serious back problems.
