As I write this blog entry, sadly, I have to admit that while I trained for and completed a triathlon 11 months ago my workout regimen has decreased dramatically. I have many starts and stops since May of last year when I competed in the Tri it on Triathlon. My gym membership is still in effect, although I’ve had a hard time getting motivated to hit the spin class, the weights, pool, and track.
Competing in the triathlon was a very good incentive and I wish I had committed to do it again this year. The race is coming up in a few weeks and I don’t know if it’s too late to give it a try. It did take me 11 months to get ready last year. I really don’t know at this point if I’m willing to give it a try. I’ll let you know if I do. Last year my sister competed in the race with me and she only trained for one month. She is much more physically fit than I am. I guess being a Lieutenant Colonel in the Air Force keeps you in shape. She’s busy preparing for a tour of duty right now. I think it would be cool to do it again this year for that very reason. I just don’t know if it’s too late to attempt it.
Ironically, I read an article that 45 to 60 minutes of robust exercise 4 to 5 days a week helps lower a woman’s risk of certain cancers. That same article talked about how breast cancer rates increase for women in their forties. I was slightly motivated to get back on my training regimen, when I read the article. I hope I find the motivation to stay fit...not just because I’ve had the wonderful blessing of reaching the frontier of the forties, but because I want to be healthy in this decade and beyond. I’m reminded that life is a marathon...not a sprint...the goal is to keep running.
Next time we’re off to Africa…the next big highlight of my 40th year.
