November is National Adoption Month.   There are approximately 6,300 children in Alabama's foster care system. 590 of these children are available for adoption.

More than 300 of these children will be adopted by the foster parents they are already living with; there are approximately 280 that have a goal of adoption and we are looking for their permanent family.

Michelle Bearman-Wolnek with Heart Gallery Alabama joined Brooke Smith on Wake Up Alabama Thursday to talk about an event to help raise awareness for Alabama's foster children.

Families can learn more about adopting from alabama's foster care system by sending an e-mail to:  families4alkids@dhr.alabama.gov.

Or you can call 1-866-4AL-KIDS.
