Birmingham, Ala (WIAT) Two full days of terrific high school football saved the best for last as Hoover and Prattville battled in a game that came down to a gutsy call to go for two and the win in the final seconds.

Hoover's gamble failed giving Prattville a 35-34 win and the 6A title but the game lived up to expectations.

The Lions are 5-2 all-time in championship games and have won three of the five championship games against Hoover. Prattville’s championship game win was the school’s 50th playoff victory.

Hoover falls to 7-7-1 all-time in championship game history. The Bucs have lost four of their last five championship game appearances. Hoover has played in AHSAA state record 15 championship games. The previous record was 14 championship game appearances held by Hazelwood High School.

The Bucs have won or shared eight state titles, which ties for the fourth most in AHSAA history.

Hoover’s 23 first downs set the Class 6A Super Six record for first downs. The previous record was 22 also by Hoover against Daphne in 2003.

More than 50,000 paid to get into Bryant-Denny over the two days of competition. Video Streaming here on CBS42 was literally watched around the world.

And the conclusion of the 6A game airing on CBS42 was the most viewed television program in the market at that time period.
