TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (WIAT) - A series of massive paintings depicting the history of Tuscaloosa have moved to the new federal courthouse after over two years of work.  Artist Caleb O'Connor was commissioned to paint the 14 feet tall and 9 feet wide pieces that were hung in the second floor hallway of the building on Monday.  O'Connor says he is still putting the finishing touches on two of the paintings.

The sixteen paintings tell the stories of important moments in the history of Tuscaloosa and the nation including the Civil War, Trail of Tears, and even the April 27th tornado.  U.S District Judge Scott Coogler and other members of his staff worked closely with O'Connor to find the appropriate photos, costumes, and even interviews to assist with the accuracy of the paintings.

The new courthouse opened in October, however, the grand opening is scheduled for later this month.
