You may remember Ty'Sheoma Bethea, who wrote President Obama a letter detailing the deplorable conditions at J.V. Martin Junior High School in Dillon, South Carolina.

Sagus International President and CEO and Alabama native, Darryl Rosser, responded to the 8th grader's cry for help.

"The furniture was just atrocious that the kids were sitting in.  It's amazing that the kids were having to learn in this environment," says Rosser.

Rosser donated new furniture for the entire school - a makeover worth $250,000.

But that's not all.

In addition to helping two schools in Chicago, Rosser has also recently spruced up Erwin High School in Jefferson County.

Students at Erwin High say they really needed the new furniture.

"The desks were falling apart. The wood was falling apart. The desks were scraping the skin off your arm," says senior Brandi Knight.

"Our high school is nearly 50 years old, and some of the chairs in the high school now are original chairs," says Principal Van Phillips.

Rosser gave Mr. Lakin's chemistry and physics classroom 35 new desks.

"I like it.  It's comfortable.  The chair...you can relax and sit back in and put your arms up," says Knight.

Erwin High student Angel Weems agrees.

"I would like to thank the people who gave us these desks out of their own goodwill and charity."

Rosser, who splits his time between Chicago where Sagus is based and Birmingham where he calls home, is currently working with the Obama administration on how to further improve classrooms across the country.

"Our kids are the things that are going to be our future, so it's very important that we invest in this," says Rosser.

According to Principal Van Phillips, the future looks bright for Erwin High School. They are set to break ground on a new school in November.
