BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) - On Thursday, along with his family, State Senator Scott Beason announced that he's running for United States House of Representatives - District 6.
"The national debt is out if control. Spending is out of control. Washington is out of control, and the sad part is that many Republicans are just as responsible for the problems as the Democrats. It is time for change in Washington," Beason said.
As a State Senator, Beason was the sponsor of the strictest immigration laws in the country, and its chief defender.
He also announced his
campaign website.
Retired USAF Colonel Penny Huggins Bailey also announced her candidacy for the spot. The longtime Leeds resident served in the US Air Force and retired as Colonel after 24 years of duty.
"I want to work to embody these values in Congress on behalf of the people of Alabama's 6th Congressional District," said Colonel Bailey. "Alabamians deserve a true public servant who puts professionalism before partisan politics, and I know I have the background to do Alabama proud in Washington."
Blount County Probate Judge David Standridge is expected to announce his bid for the District 6 seat. He has scheduled a public announcement Friday at 2 in Oneonta.
The District 6 spot is currently held by Spencer Bachus. It's a position he's held since 1993.
