Low turnout expected for Tuesday's election

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) - Folks aren't expected to turn out in droves for Birmingham's election Tuesday.  City leaders expect a low turnout at the polls.

Six candidates will be on the ballot.  Incumbent Mayor William Bell, T.C. Cannon, Willis Hendrix, Pat Bell, Harry Turner and Kamau Afrika.  It's been a very quiet campaign period for the candidates.

Tuesday's election is for a two year term to put the mayor's race in line with council races.  Ss always, polls are open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

CBS42 will also be watching the polls in Talladega and Tuscaloosa counties also.  People will be electing a new mayor,  council and school board in Talladgea.  Northport and Tuscaloosa County voters will decide on a Sunday alcohol sales referendum.
