Immigration law means changes for driver's license

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) - A small decal in the corner of your driver's license will make a big difference in your safety and protection.

On Thursday, Governor Bentley unveiled the new look for driver licenses and non-driver ID cards.  It's pretty much just like the old one except for a star decal in the upper left hand corner.  Eventually, you'll have to get that decal on your ID if you want to comply with new federal identification standards and the new immigration law.

Your current ID will remain valid until December 1st, 2014, but after that, anyone whose card does not have the star will be required to have documents and a separate ID in order to get on an airplane, or enter a federal facility.
