BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) - Members of the Birmingham City Council credit the CBS42 documentary "Deadly Deception" for kickstarting new efforts to curb pollution levels.

The hour long special took an indepth look at the effects of decades of pollution in North Birmingham neighborhoods like Collegeville and Fairmont.  Councilman Jonathan Austin says watching that stunning series of reports has compelled him to push his "Emerald City Ordinance" again.  Under the measure, the city would fine companies that exceed air pollution levels.

Councilman Austin first introduced the air quality ordinance to the public safety committee a year ago; however, the panel opted to table it, thus putting any action on hold.

You can watch a rebroadcast of "Deadly Deception" later this month on Saturday, August 27th at 6 pm.
