Thursday, Nov. 5
• Blaze the Night Pep Rally and Bonfire – 7 p.m. at the UAB Mini Park, corner of 14th Street South and University Boulevard.
Friday, Nov. 6
• Annual Homecoming Parade – Noon; (In case of rain, the parade will be held at 9 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 7.) This is the first Homecoming parade following last year’s cancelation due to rain. The parade will feature floats, the Blazer Marching Band and more. The parade grand marshal will be Fox-6 News anchor Janice Rogers. Marchers will begin lining up on 14th Street South from University Boulevard at 10 a.m. The parade will proceed south on 14th Street South to 10th Avenue South. The parade will then turn east onto 10th Avenue South and will continue to 19th Street South. The parade will then turn north onto 19th Street South and proceed to University Boulevard. Saturday, Nov. 7
• Blazer Village – Begins at 11 a.m. at Legion Field. The event features tailgate parties, food, giveaways and more.
• Homecoming Game – The UAB Blazers will take on the Florida Atlantic University Owls at 1 p.m. at Legion Field. ADMISSION CHARGED FOR GAME.
MOSS ROCK FESTIVAL

REMEMBRANCE CEREMONY
Alabama National Cemetery, 3133 Highway 119 Montevallo, AL 35114. Sunday Nov 8, 2009, Ceremony begins at 2pm at the Paviolioni area on the cemetery grounds. It will feature an Honor Guard from the US Marine Corp, rifle salute, and Wreath Laying Ceremony.
MCWANE SCIENCE CENTER SLEEPOVER:
(Birmingham, AL) – The City of Birmingham Mayor's Office Division of Youth Services and the McWane Science Center will be hosting a sleepover on December 12, 2009 for Birmingham organizations that serve youth 4-18 years old. Participants will enjoy activities, exhibits and an overnight stay in the McWane Science Center. Meals and snacks will be provided.
The event is FREE, but pre-registration through DYS is required. Up to 30 youth per organization can be registered to participate. Groups will be registered on first-come/first-serve basis, until DYS reaches capacity. Registered groups must have a chaperone for every 10 youth and youth under the age of seven must be accompanied by a parent. Chaperones and parents will be required to attend a meeting prior to the sleepover.

PAY IT FORWARD
(Birmingham, AL) – The City of Birmingham Mayor's Office-Division of Youth Services (DYS) is holding a contest to celebrate World Kindness Week. The contest will take place from November 9-13, 2009 and is designed to promote the concept of paying it forward. Contestants will receive a gift card from DYS to "pay forward" to someone else. Upon receipt of the gift cards, contestants will be required to tell who they will give the gift card to and why they believe that person needs it. At the end of the contest, one youth will receive an ultimate prize for their generosity.
Birmingham City School students in grades K-12 are invited to participate. To enter the contest, students must register at the DYS office located at 808 North 18th Street in downtown Birmingham. Registrations will be accepted November 9th-12th from 3:00pm-5:00pm, or until all gift cards have been distributed.

HELPING GIRLS IN TROUBLE
(Birmingham, AL) – The City of Birmingham Mayor's Office-Division of Youth Services (DYS) is currently registering female students for the December 10, 2009 FREEality Check tour at the Tutwiler Women's Correctional Facility. The tour is for Birmingham Public High School females in the 10th-12th grades who have been cited for a blatant disrespect of authority.
DYS will register 25 female students to participate in the upcoming tour. Students must be recommended by their school's principal or guidance counselor. Registrations will be accepted on a first-come/first-serve basis. Tour participants must be accompanied by a parent/guardian during a mandatory orientation on December 7, 2009.
