BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) A massive budget fight in congress is certainly attracting the attention of people here in Alabama.

So much so that it spawned a protest outside the Social Security Office in downtown Birmingham.

Members of the American Federation of Government Employees are outraged over a proposal to cut their benefits.

The workers say they're not the ones to be blamed for a weak economy.

Congress is proposing a 1.7 billion dollar reduction in social security funding for the remainder of the year.
