The father of murder victim Stephany Flores has lashed out at what he calls lavish treatment of his daughter's accused killer.
According to Radio Netherlands Worldwide, Peruvian entrepreneur Ricardo Flores complained on Peruvian television that van der Sloot is enjoying all sorts of privileges in Lima’s Castro Castro prison. The Dutch suspect is said to have a single cell in the overcrowded jail, be allowed to walk as much as he wants in a prison courtyard and even to be able to buy marijuana.
The Peruvian paper EL COMMERCIO quotes Flores saying "Van der Sloot lives 'like royalty' in Castro Castro."
Flores, a former race car driver, declined to meet with Beth Holloway when she was in Peru for her now famous trip to confront van der Sloot at the prison. Flores says his family is distressed by the slow moving Peruvian justice system and that his wife and surviving children are under "pychological treatment."
Van der Sloot has confessed to killing Stephany Flores after she found material relating to Natalee Holloway on his laptop. Stephany's body was found in van der Sloot's Lima hotel room five years to the day after Natalee Holloway disappeared on a graduation trip to Aruba. The Mountain Brook teen was last seen with van der Sloot but Aruban authorities never charged him in connection with her disappearance.
Natalee's mother Beth confronted van der Sloot at the prison after gaining access with a Dutch television crew. Video of that prison confrontation has since aired in The Netherlands and here in the U.S.
