Van der Sloot trial Friday

Birmingham, Ala (WIAT) Is Joran van der Sloot’s day of reckoning near?  The Dutchman is scheduled to stand trial Friday in Peru for killing and robbing Stephany Flores.  Van der Sloot has confessed he killed the 21 year old student he met at a poker tournament but insists it was a crime of passion.  He says he killed Flores in an argument after she found material about Natalee Holloway on his laptop.

Holloway is the Mountain Brook teen who vanished on a graduation trip to Aruba in 2005.  She was last seen leaving a bar with van der Sloot and two of his friends.  Van der Sloot was questioned repeatedly but never charged in that crime.

Two macabre ironies....Flores' corpse was found in van der Sloot's Lima hotel room on the fifth anniversary of Natalee's disappearance.  And many believe he traveled to Peru on money he got from Natalee's family after promising information on her fate.  A federal grand jury here in Birmingham indicted him on fraud and extortion charges when no information was given.

We've all read your ridiculus "FBI did it / Giordana did it / aliens did it" tales boycoyt/debbie/MaryS/rachelM. And we all know they are not credible stories. But... For the sake of argument, why don't you convince your fantasy lover Joran to try that defense. I dare him!

Van der Sloot ought to be acquitted. Gary Giordano was in Aruba when both Holloway and Gardner went missing. Flores is collateral damage in the persecution of an innocent man.

Hmmm. I wonder what's going to happen on Friday... will Joran enter a guilty plea or will he challenge the evidence?
