Birmingham, Ala (WIAT) The Flores family in Peru has some closure...Natalee Holloway's family still waits.
Joran van der Sloot stood in a courtroom in Lima, Peru this morning and told a three women judges that he was pleading guilty to killing Stephany Flores. He had previously confessed to killing the 21 year old student after she found material relating to Holloway on his laptop.
According to the translated live stream, van der Sloot's attorney said that there is an acceptance of the charges, and payment of civil reparations. The attorney said that van der Sloot is deeply regretful of the incident. He asks the court to consider his client's sincere confession and his willingness to work with authorities.
At this point, the 3 panel judges said they were going to suspend the hearing. The prosecuting attorney had one more thing to add- that they must consider Stephany Flores' "right to truth". The prosecuting attorney reminded the panel that Ms. Florez was close to finishing college, implying that her life was worth more because of her schooling. He asked that the judges consider her "life projection".
We should learn the fate of Joran van der Sloot at 10am on Friday (Lima Time). Stay with CBS 42 for more on this story.
