Alabama State Troopers had been leading the investigation in the fatal hit and run that happened on Highway 202 just West of Anniston Wednesday night.

Investigators say the wreck happened around 8 pm and the victim was struck and killed as he stood next to a disabled car.   The driver of the other vehicle apparently did not stop after the accident.

A spokesman for the State Troopers says they had little to go on besides the wrecked car and a mirror that fell off the suspect’s vehicle during the wreck.

"We don't have a make, we don't have model, we don't have a color.  But if you see a vehicle that has damage, that's missing a side rearview mirror and damage going from the rear of that vehicle to the front of it, notify the State Troopers.  Especially if you've seen that vehicle more than once, and when you saw the vehicle before it wasn't damaged," says Trooper Charles Dysart.

Investigators on Thursday asked for the help of the media to find the suspect in the case.  Troopers tell CBS 42 News that the suspect driver and the vehicle involved had been located as of Friday morning.  No charges have yet been announced.

Calhoun County Coroner Pat Brown has identified the victim as Gordon Whitman.  Brown says he was going to work at the Anniston Army Depot when the wreck occurred.
