TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (WIAT) - There are hundreds of Alabama children in the foster care system who are ready to find a permanent home with new parents.  However, many of these children are older, have disabilities, or come with brothers and sisters.  For some adoptive families, it's too much baggage.  Officials believe many families are mainly interested in adopting infants, and sometimes the older children are overlooked.

The Heart Gallery of Alabama has worked for six years to find over 300 of these children homes through a unique travelling photo exhibit.  Foster children who have become legally eligible for adoption can be placed in the Heart Gallery.  A professional photographer will take pictures of the child and their siblings; and a social worker will interview the child to provide a little more information for prospective parents.  At the Heart Gallery's website, families can see videos of the children to better understand their personalities.

The Heart Gallery of Alabama is spending the month of October at the Tuscaloosa Public Library.  Library officials say two male siblings have already been adopted since the exhibit arrived in West Alabama.  For those interested in learning more there will be an informational meeting about the adoption process on October 24th at the Tuscaloosa library starting at 5:00pm.
