ALABASTER, AL (WIAT-TV) - Josh Carden has taken more than a few lumps in his relatively short time on this earth. Born with Cerebral Palsy, he's spends most of his time confined to a wheelchair and bed. And it got worse just a couple of months ago. Josh watched as his grandfather was hit and killed by a car crossing the road in front of their home.
But things are starting to look up for the Thompson High School senior. Since his grandfather's death, a group of volunteers have made it their mission to build Josh a new home and get him out of the single wide mobile home he's lived in for years.
That mission will officially start this weekend. The volunteers, along with Josh and his grandmother Louise Burkett, will break ground on that new handi-capable new home. And it's miles away from the memories and the traffic of where he lives now.
The Josh Carden Project is also having a silent auction Thursday night(4/7) at Nino's Italian Restaurant in Pelham to raise money for the construction. Bids open at 5pm and will close at 9pm. On the block - Nick Saban signed lithographs, Alabama and Auburn memorabilia, even a signed Trace Adkins cowboy hat.
