The funeral for a 13 year old driver who died during a Friday night car wreck on Plant Road is planned for this Saturday.

The victim of that accident was Jordan Curry of Alpine, according to the Talladega County Coroner.

Alabama State Trooper Charles Dysart says the single vehicle wreck was called in around eleven o'clock Friday night  The accident report has not been released, but investigators think speed and inexperience were big factors.

"That driver was able to gain access to that vehicle while her parents were asleep," said Trooper Charles Dysart. "The driver was traveling south bound. The driver lost control of that vehicle, went onto the shoulder, over-corrected, drove across the north bound lane, went over into a culvert and flipped in the air."

Dysart said the latest wreck hits close to home in a community that has already experienced four teenage traffic fatalities this year.

He said teenagers between the ages of 13-19 are dying on Alabama roadways at a higher rate than any other age group.

Parents who live nearby say it's a tragic reminder that road risks are real.

"A thirteen year old got killed and we already had four that got killed. This here is just sad. It's something to look at and think about," said David Garrett.

"When something like this happens it don't just affect the family that it happened to, it affects the whole neighborhood. Because everyone that's got children has got a thirteen year old or going to have a thirteen year old," said Doris Taylor.

A spokesperson for Talladega City Schools says Jordan Curry was a student at Zora Ellis Junior High School which is out for Spring Break.

The funeral for Jordan Curry will be this Saturday at one p.m. at Peace Missionary Baptist Church in Talladega. She will be buried at Oak Hills Cemetery. Terry's Metropolitan Mortuary is handling the arrangements.
