TUSCALOOSA (WIAT) - The Iron Bowl is as much a tradition as Thanksgiving itself. This year, fans mixed the two for a Tuscaloosa Turkey Day.
"We're Alabama fans and we love tailgating," said Terry Anthony of Phenix City. This was the first Thanksgiving he and his family spent tailgating. Instead of their dining room, they shared a turkey feast with neighbors at an RV park near University Mall.
Anthony's next-door neighbor in Phenix City, Raymond Fitzgerald, is an avid Iron Bowl tailgater.
"This is our fourth time to be here, so we've been planning it almost all year long," he said.
For others who were spending their first Thanksgiving in the RV lot, it was an exciting change of pace.
"It's well worth it," Alabama fan Lynn Weekley said. "We can get a good spot and be with family and friends."
"Usually it's about 75 people at a family get together, munching," Auburn fan Shaun Battiste said. "Not this year, we're going to be here to pull them through."
