Sunday Tornadoes Confirmed

Officials with the National Weather Service confirm tornadoes touched down in Shelby, Blount, St. Clair, Hale and Perry Counties on Sunday.

An EF-2 tornado was confirmed in Highland Lake, effecting both Blount and St. Clair Counties.  18 structures were destroyed or damaged, with four being totally destroyed. Seven chicken houses were destroyed leaving 95,000 chickens displaced.

An EF-1 tornado was confirmed in the Prairie Creek community of Perry County.  About 50 to 100 trees feel and one home had roof damage.

An EF-1 tornado was confirmed in the Perry County town of Marion.  About 100 trees were toppled and one home had shingle damage.

An EF-0 tornado was confirmed in the Whitsitt community in Hale County.  About 50 trees were snapped and two structures were damaged.

An EF-0 tornado was confirmed in Alabaster in Shelby County.  It was on the ground for 50 yards, and no known damage from this storm has been reported.

An EF-2 tornado was also confirmed in Russell County near Phenix City, which moved through Columbus, Georgia.
