Jasper residents can't help but feel disheartened at the news that Waldenbooks and Sound Shop are closing.

Both stores have been in the Jasper Mall more than 25 years, and both are the only shops of their kind in town.

But it's not just the Jasper Mall that's losing stores.

"Waldenbooks is closing 300 stores nationwide, and Sound Shop is closing all its stores in Alabama."

Jasper Mall General Manager Marsha Massey says the corporate shutdowns have been triggered by technology.

"A lot of people are buying their books online, and a lot of people are downloading music online," says Massey.

But even though the stores may close, the memories will live on.
