Sims Convicted in Two Murders

      BESSEMER, Ala. (AP) - A jury in Bessemer has convicted
21-year-old Lakendall Sims of two counts of capital murder.
      Jefferson County Circuit Judge Mac Parsons sentenced Sims to
life without parole on Thursday on the jury's unanimous
recommendation.
      Sims was convicted of murder committed during a kidnapping and
murder committed during a robbery in the May 2007 death of Gabriel
Alaniz.
      In January, Sims was convicted of the 2007 murder of 19-year-old
Mary Catherine Williams and was sentenced to two consecutive terms
of life in prison.
      He also is serving a 20-year sentence at Donaldson Correctional
Facility for second-degree rape.
