BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) - A little good news in the fight against a new strip mine in Walker County. The University of Alabama owns a key piece of the land in the battle.
In a response to the Birmingham chapter of the NAACP, University President Robert Witt says there has been no interest shown in the land up until now. NAACP Director of Communications Rev. Anthony Johnson calls the response a "warm and fuzzy introduction" between the school and his group. But says they wished for a more hardline approach that would have said the school would not allow the land to mined.
