Shepherd Bend Mine Permit

The residents who live along the Black Warrior River are trying to keep a strip mine out of their community. The Alabama Surface Mining Commission held an informal meeting today for residents to voice their concerns.

“From an engineering standpoint I have fact checked the application and sediment that could be reaching 1.1 billion pounds of discharge into the river that equates to roughly three dump truck loads per day,” says Todd Hyche, Black Warrior River Resident.

“You got 200 thousand people depend on that river for dinking water got no business issuing that permit,” says Awtrey Phillips.

More than 100 people showed up to Thursdays meeting, the ASMC says they will make their decision on the mine permit in the next 60 days.
