It was the best kept secret in the Birmingham metro area.

A group of "do-gooders" stayed under-cover for nearly six weeks.

But today, that group revealed itself to the public.

For weeks, they've been paying it forward... from free meals to free gas, Legacy Federal Credit Union is the company behind it all.

What started as a marketing strategy has turned into a community service campaign. The goal? To perform good deeds for random people.

Today they revealed themselves, giving away gas for a $1.99/gallon.

“Random acts of kindness are definitely contagious. Something that we all like to do and benefit from. And in turn, if we can turn around and do it to the next person, it's just even more powerful,” said Jennifer Causey, who saved a few dollars at the gas pump today.

"We hope that we've planted a seed in the community and that people will embrace the idea and the concept of doing something good and that not only will Legacy be out doing good in the community, but everybody else can have that mindset and go out and do something good as well,” said Joe McGee, CEO of Legacy Credit Union.

And this is certainly not the end. Legacy is in the midst of starting a foundation to continue the cause.
