BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) - They spent all weekend researching how to rebuild Pratt City. now a group of national architects and urban designers have come up with to make the neighborhood bigger and better.

Experts want to establish a commission that will help attract new businesses to move in.

The architects say Pratt City needs to use its rich history in its rebuilding but also needs to connect better with the rest of Birmingham whether it be transportation or communities coming together.

Some other suggestions:

1. Build a new community center at the Scott School location
2. Make Highway 78 look more attractive so people will want to come back.
3. Build more walkways to make it a healthy community.
4. Provide mental health relief for people hurting from the storms
5. Families should for Garden Clubs and help make their neighborhoods look better.
6. Get big businesses to move in on Highway 78
7. Improve bus services
8. Test for pollution
9. Create attractive affordable housing.

"It is truly a comprehensive plan and I beyond the expectations that many people had and I believe that it will be the blue print by which we can not only rebuild this community but spread all throughout the city" said Birmingham Mayor William Bell.

Now some of these proposals are expensive and Mayor Bell admits they can't afford to do them all at once but many projects can be done by volunteers and private donations.

What a joke! My friend and her daughter have been living with us for 6 months. It has been one battle after the next. Lupo won't return phone calls from the Mayors office. She has filled out at least 3 separate forms giving permission to the city to demolish her house. Public works keeps blaming someone else. It's a shame the way the city of Birmingham has been treating most of the people from Pratt City!
