BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) If it feels like you're spending more and more at the grocery store, it's not your imagination. The cost of feeding your family has gone up considerably.
The world bank says globally, food prices jumped 29 percent in the last year. The biggest pinch is being felt by those in developing countries, who spend up to half their income on food.
Higher prices for corn, wheat and oil pushed 44 million people into extreme poverty and it's not over. Food prices are expected to continue to rise.
Severe winter weather and bans on certain exports are the main reasons.
