A group is appealing to a woman's sexier side to raise money and awareness to fight ovarian cancer.

They’re all dolled up as pin-up girls from the 40's to raise awareness for ovarian cancer.

"I am going to just try to be sexy and confident. That's the thing about the pin up dolls from the 40's they were confident in their bodies. They just loved the way they looked and loved life and part of that is being healthy," said pin-up girl Chrissy Riche.

They are also advertising a fundraiser taking place July 30th on the Redmont Rooftop.

"We just wanted to raise money for research.  There isn't a really good test for ovarian cancer right now," said Angela Karen of Birmingham Bombshells.

Nobody knows more than Megan Waldrep how important a test like that can be for saving lives.

"I feel like if there had been an accurate test for ovarian cancer my younger sister would still be alive today.  It’s going to fund ovarian cancer research so hopefully we can find a test and maybe it will be the scientists here at UAB that will help us detect ovarian cancer in the future," said Waldrep.

The girls hope to use the sex appeal of the pin-up to let women know that even the young and beautiful can be affected by ovarian cancer.

"You never know what’s going on inside your body unless you get the proper check ups, and it doesn't matter what you look like on the outside if you are sick,” said pin-up girl Dianella Rangel.

Karen added, "Make sure that everybody can be aware of what to look for no matter how young or how old you are or how good of shape you are in you need to know the signs and symptoms."

Some warning signs of ovarian cancer include abdominal pressure, loss of appetite and frequent urination.
