BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) — A Birmingham City Hall employee is campaigning to overturn the federal corruption conviction and likely prison sentence of former Mayor Larry Langford.

Frank Matthews, an aide to Langford, announced a drive Monday to ask President Obama and U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder to free Langford. He says Langford deserves the same treatment as former officials convicted of wrongdoing in Washington.

To encourage people to join in the drive, Matthews is offering a free key chain to anyone who calls the White House or the Justice Department on Langford's behalf.

The key chains bear Langford's name, and Matthews says they were being thrown away from City Hall after the conviction. Matthews says the key chains are city property, so he's giving them to Langford supporters.
